Life is challenging, each turn can be full of surprises. We fall in and out of love, we navigate dramas and wrestle with impulses that can make life trying.
We seek emotional drama, like a drug. Our everyday life can be summed up in a game of love and fear. But the rut places a whole new dynamic in this equation. It is by far no accident why we have been pruned and driven to live this way.
One popular activity in receiving our hit is the common news.
Most even stir up drama in their personal circles.
At the core of this endless quest for stimulation and reaction lies the culprit: RUT.
This simple three-letter word can create some of life’s most complicated challenges. It has the power to mark either the beginning of stagnation or the end of progress—unless, like the proverbial phoenix, we rise from the ashes and transform ourselves from personal experience and evolution.
The rut is the repetitive cycle of living the same routines day in and day out, stripping life of its variety. It creeps in subtly and manifests in one of the most frustrating emotions we experience: “boredom“.
Boredom, though often underestimated, can cause profound strife. It lies at the heart of unnecessary drama and chaos.
Boredom and Chaos?
Take a moment to reflect on your life. Think of a time when you were stuck in a rut, utterly bored. What thoughts filled your mind? Did you notice how your decisions shifted? Did life take an unexpected turn?
Boredom has a connection to chaos. Just as water sustains our bodies, new experiences sustains our minds. When you deprive yourself of variety, your mind craves stimulation—sometimes it can manifest in unhealthy ways.
This craving can lead to irrational decisions or destructive behavior. But once you recognize this aspect of yourself, you can redirect that restless energy into healthier outlets. Read a book, pick up a hobby, socialize, or hit the gym. There are countless ways to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.
As the saying goes:
“There is nothing more dangerous than a bored mind.”
There is a man who had it all—money, fame, looks, and status. The day after sharing an intimate moment with a beautiful woman who could easily have been a Victoria’s Secret model. He stood on his balcony and thought, “My life is boring, what’s the point.”
Eventually what followed was so extreme, you would think I pulled it from the pages of a spy book. Some of his fortunes became frozen, faced multiple allegations, and eventually ended up in prison for a short while.
This isn’t meant to scare you, but rather to empower you. Recognizing the rut and the potential boredom can lead to the first steps towards healthier life choices.
*When you find yourself in a rut. Choose something that nourishes your mind, body, and spirit.
Remember:
“Don’t be bored, be healthy”
